Award updates: Casual Employees and Overtime

Published: Wednesday, 18 November 2020 at 12:16:41 PM

As part of the Fair Work Commission's (FWC) four-yearly review, the FWC will be updating 97 modern awards in regards to casual employees and the treatment of overtime.

The changes implemented across the 97 awards vary but have been designed to provide greater clarification on whether a casual employee is entitled to a casual loading when being paid for overtime.

Whether casual loading is to be included in the overtime rate is not standardised and varies from award to award.

When do these changes come into effect?

For all 97 awards bar one, the changes come into effect on 20 November 2020

The only one not to be updated in November is the Aged Care Award 2010; which will be updated on 1 March 2021.
