World Teacher’s Day

Today marks World Teacher’s Day, which according to UNESCO, represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development.

So as I sit thinking about the meaning of life (as you do), Dolly Parton’s song, 9 to 5, springs to mind, especially the first couple of lines:

Tumble outta bed and stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition

And for some reason this takes me back to being a kid, getting ready for school; I loved school and could never wait to get there. I loved learning new things and rushing home to tell my mum and dad about the new words I’d learnt or the explosive science experiment! But most of all, these words reminded me of the absolute ambition I had. At six I was definitely going to be a paediatrician (fear of blood and needles put paid to that), at 12 I was going to be prime minister (lack of tact and being too nice meant this would never happen!). But there was always a constant in my schooling; I was fortunate to have amazing teachers. I mean there were a few that were lacking but in the main they excited me and were passionate. And I guess it’s to those teachers I am thankful. For having the patience to put up with the constant questions, the late homework because I’d had a ‘creative block’, the arrogance of a teen who thought she knew it all, but still had so much to learn. Most of my teachers had the patience of saints!

But what does any of this have to do with IT Vision? World Teacher’s Day is about the vital contribution to education and development. And therein lies the link. IT Vision is committed to adding value to our customers’ businesses; at the heart of our innovation is one of our core values – supporting the communities in which we live. As a result of this commitment to driving innovation a suite of new Altus products have recently launched, with the sole purpose of supporting our customers’ business development needs – one new product is the Altus Finance Enquiry solution, which is more advanced and user friendly, allowing (particularly) those who control budget allocations to access financial information including balances and transaction history, anytime, anywhere. Are you ready for the revolution? Are you Altus ready?

This is just one example of how the ambition and innovation is driving IT Vision, and with more Altus products becoming available, we are committed to delivering innovate solutions to our customers, in the same way that teachers are committed quality education to the future generations. So on this day, take a moment to reflect on a teacher that impacted you and contributed to the person you became.
